Art Overload! The Hermitage

While in St. Petersburg, a collegue and I had a chance to visit one of the most important museums in the world, the Hermitage. This is an incredible collection of art, some of the most famous artists are represented, including two Da Vinci madonnas. I found it very inspirational, but ultimately overwhelming. Oh look, another Rubens…

I don’t like photographing art. You need to experience it first hand. So I didn’t take many images. I did shoot this set of horses in armour. I don’t think I did it justice, but it was a very cool display and gives a sense of what it could have been like with these armoured monsters bearing down on you.

After being blown away by the Hermitage, I did find a quite corner to capture an original image. I felt humbled by some of the artworks that I’d seen, but I still was looking for images to capture. While going up to the third floor I saw this image of these stairs. The light was very flat and I knew there was a solid monochrome image here.

I loved visiting the Hermitage. If you ever visit St. Petes, make sure you visit and come away inspired.

More to come….
